Day 7 Hombu and Shinjuku

Day seven started out extremely early with a 4:50 AM departure to get to hombu dojo and train. There were several huge groups visiting when we were there so the mats were even more crowded than usual. One of the groups (the Polish group) was brought by Koyinagi Sensei, so we also enjoyed catching up with him a bit.
Afterwards, we headed to the Airbnb to meet those who had slept and watched the boys (the non Aikido crew) and we proceeded to head out for separate adventures. We headed to a special flower festival in a garden near the Tokyo dome, while some others went to Shinjuku for shopping.
Most of us met Ben and Naomi at a coffee shop near the Tokyo dome to wish them safe travels. Afterwards, we then went to Shinjuku where we saw Godzilla, went to a Don Quijote, and then we ate at a Japanese restaurant where you order the meat and veggies raw and cook it (unless it's 'sashimi' like the raw horse meat one adventurous member ordered and a few of the rest of us tried). We then headed back home after the bright lights to crash.

Day of Departure Preparations

Today we are preparing for the trip (we also have been preparing for several days in many ways)! Many of us are packing, and Tella and I are preparing our house for a couple of guests on the night of our return (two on the trip with us will be staying at our place that night since we arrive so late). Hopefully we can get all of the work needed for outsourcing our work for 10 days finished, ourselves and the boys fully packed and ready, and still have some downtime as a family. We will see, but it should be an exciting adventure. (On the slightly negative side we were texted that the flight from San Francisco to Tokyo is delayed, so instead of us leaving at 1:15AM and sleeping on the plane to prepare for the inbound time zone, we are leaving at 5:15AM, which will be a much rougher layover). We will figure that out once we get there, though.

Delays and a late night cross country race

Here we sit around 3:30 in the morning Pacific time at San Francisco International Airport. We anticipated being somewhere over the Pacific at this time, but we are currently recovering from a very long walk to visit a robot and earlier evening sprints. In Kansas, we had experienced some thunderstorms that had also previously rolled through Denver. They caused delays, but we still had to be to the airport at the original time to check bags and to go through security; as we discovered, security does not stick around with delays. It originally appeared that we would not make our connection to San Francisco, which could complicate things since we were meeting Tella's mom there. After further delays, it seemed quite clear that we could not make it. Then, they let us board earlier than angicipated; upon landing, we found out the other flight had been slightly delayed, but only slightly. Second Day

After waking up early for the hour subway ride to Kodaira, we grabbed some food at a nearby breakfast place. Next we enjoyed training at Kodaira and had tea afterwards. Everyone was tired, so we returned to the Airbnb for naps. That evening we trained at Bunbegawara (one of Koyinagi Sensei's schools). After that, we grabbed a quick supper with Koyunagi Sensei's help and crashed!
