A (Very) Long Tuesday

This morning (about 25 hours back as I write this), we got up and started packing, cleaning, and organizing the place. Rebekah and Tella headed off to a tea ceremony, and then we all headed out of the Airbnb to an indoor kids' park for Simon with a food court for everyone else.
After that, we headed through Haneda and got to our gate. Once there, we gate checked the stroller and explored. Eventually, around 5 PM or 6 PM local time, we boarded our flight and then flew for nine hours, crossing the international dateline. Due to that, it is still the same day we left but now it is 3:20 PM current local time (meaning in a weird way that it is actually before when we hopped on the plane in Haneda). At this exact moment, we are in LAX.
Soon we will fly on to Denver and jump over one time zone and then ultimately we will arrive in Hays in our time zone quite late tonight. Thanks to everybody who wanted to read this to keep up with our trip! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Day of Departure Preparations

Today we are preparing for the trip (we also have been preparing for several days in many ways)! Many of us are packing, and Tella and I are preparing our house for a couple of guests on the night of our return (two on the trip with us will be staying at our place that night since we arrive so late). Hopefully we can get all of the work needed for outsourcing our work for 10 days finished, ourselves and the boys fully packed and ready, and still have some downtime as a family. We will see, but it should be an exciting adventure. (On the slightly negative side we were texted that the flight from San Francisco to Tokyo is delayed, so instead of us leaving at 1:15AM and sleeping on the plane to prepare for the inbound time zone, we are leaving at 5:15AM, which will be a much rougher layover). We will figure that out once we get there, though.

Delays and a late night cross country race

Here we sit around 3:30 in the morning Pacific time at San Francisco International Airport. We anticipated being somewhere over the Pacific at this time, but we are currently recovering from a very long walk to visit a robot and earlier evening sprints. In Kansas, we had experienced some thunderstorms that had also previously rolled through Denver. They caused delays, but we still had to be to the airport at the original time to check bags and to go through security; as we discovered, security does not stick around with delays. It originally appeared that we would not make our connection to San Francisco, which could complicate things since we were meeting Tella's mom there. After further delays, it seemed quite clear that we could not make it. Then, they let us board earlier than angicipated; upon landing, we found out the other flight had been slightly delayed, but only slightly. Second Day

After waking up early for the hour subway ride to Kodaira, we grabbed some food at a nearby breakfast place. Next we enjoyed training at Kodaira and had tea afterwards. Everyone was tired, so we returned to the Airbnb for naps. That evening we trained at Bunbegawara (one of Koyinagi Sensei's schools). After that, we grabbed a quick supper with Koyunagi Sensei's help and crashed!
